History of the National AmeriCorps Seniors Association

For many years, the national associations representing Foster Grandparent, RSVP, and Senior Companion programs operated separately through individual organizations. In 2005, a group of project directors from across the country came together with a shared vision of creating one unified national association that would equally represent all three programs and strengthen collaboration across the network.

Their efforts led to the formation of the Senior Corps Association of America, which later evolved into the National Senior Corps Association (NSCA) — the only national association representing all three Senior Corps programs under one organization. By focusing on shared goals, mutual support, and unified advocacy, NSCA helped strengthen communication, collaboration, and national visibility for Senior Corps programs.

The association continued to grow through major transitions, including the rebranding of Senior Corps to AmeriCorps Seniors and the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. In January 2024, the organization officially became the National AmeriCorps Seniors Association (NACSA), continuing its mission to support and strengthen AmeriCorps Seniors programs nationwide.
